Let me tell you what I love about a proposal. I love the communication leading up to it, the suspense, the planning. The nerves. All though, I am convinced I am more nervous than the actual person proposing. Waiting, hiding, being secretive? I love a good surprise, don’t get me wrong. However, every fear, anxious thought runs through my head. What if they see me? What if I trip and fall trying to get the shot? If you don’t think even the most seasoned photographer doesn’t cycle through these fears, than I don’t know what to tell you. Or maybe I am just in the minority, except I know I am most DEFINITELY not. I do probably stress more about it than the average person though, but thats just in my nature. Anyways. Dawson originally wanted to propose at a winery and had it all planned out and the approval of the winery itself, but then decided to do it at their favorite place to escape too. Their families lake side home. In front of the water, with family slowly trickling in to celebrate after the proposal. Victoria thought they were getting ready to go to the winery with friends (so it was still a part of the “plan” just not entirely) They got ready and their friends were “running late” so they went to the fire pit to enjoy a glass of wine before their friends got there, except their friends along with all of their family were going to also be there, after the proposal of course. The idea was that I’d blend in with people hanging out at the pool, except there was no one there so I had to find somewhere to hide. Then, I had to pop out to photograph them, but also still hide. me, trying to hide behind a tree hoping that I can’t be seen.. that was the most stressful thing ever haha. It went on without a hitch though and Victoria said yes!!!
I am always honored to be a part of these special moments and am so lucky to have been a part of so many peoples special moments along the way. This job truly never gets old.
Here are a few images from Dawson and Victoria’s proposal. Enjoy <3
